Saturday, though not a campaign day, was still incredibly meaningful. I had the privilege of dedicating my time to two fantastic organizations Boys and Girls Club of Northeast Mississippi and the Link Centre, both of which profoundly impact our community. Saturday marked the annual Dancing Like the Stars fundraising event for the Boys and Girls Club, an evening attended by nearly 1,000 people. Volunteers competed in a dance competition, much like the television show, complemented by other entertainment and a delicious dinner. The Link Centre played a significant role by preparing and serving the food, contributing to the overall production. At the same time, Talbot House, another organization I support, provided its famous sea salt and chocolate chip cookies for dessert. Our day began around 3 PM, when we loaded vans and headed to the Cadence Bank Center for setup. Dinner service started at 6:30 PM, with the main event beginning shortly after. My role for the evening was "the meat guy," and I lost count of how many times I asked, "Would you like pork, chicken, or a little bit of both?" It was truly rewarding to volunteer alongside such a dedicated group of people. After serving, I had a chance to connect with several friends, but then it was time to break everything down and head back to the Link Centre for cleanup. I finally got home around 10 PM and slept like a baby. The only downside to an otherwise great day was the heartbreaking news that my family lost one of our cats, Sampson, who was hit by a car early that morning. Rest in peace, little buddy.
