A Great Friday on the Campaign Trail

Friday proved to be another fulfilling day on the campaign trail, starting with breakfast at The Father's Table in Nettleton before heading into the office. Balancing work responsibilities with campaign duties often means late nights catching up, too. Still, the experience of running for this position has been incredibly eye-opening and entirely worthwhile. Before lunch, I attended the unveiling of the historic Elk's Lodge historical marker in Tupelo, a truly significant event. Among the speakers were Mayor Todd Jordan, Councilwoman Nettie Davis, and Mr. Mayfield, a prominent leader in the African American community who not only purchased but also renovated the building into a vibrant local events center. It was wonderful to see so many members of the Juneteenth committee, on which I serve, and city officials present for the occasion. Following the ceremony, I made my way to Verona to do some canvassing before meeting with Verona Alderman Julien Riley and Verona Mayor Williams. Verona was celebrating its 165th anniversary of incorporation, a fascinating fact given that it technically predates Tupelo! The anniversary cupcakes were certainly a highlight. I had planned to continue canvassing after my meetings, but instead, I had an unexpected and incredible opportunity to meet with local business owners and discuss their needs. I rounded out the day visiting with a new friend and former public servant in Tupelo; our conversations have been so enlightening, and I'm eager to continue the dialogue.
