Key Issues
Community Wellness and Development
I Will:
  • work with you to identify community needs.

  • work hard to secure support for our district.

  • work within the community to enhance quality of life.

I'm committed to improving House District 16 by connecting residents with the services they deserve, working closely with local leaders. In the state legislature, I'll be your dedicated voice, fighting for our roads, schools, clean water, and public safety – representing everyone, not just a select few.

Progress through unity, unity through service.

Education and Workforce Development

I Will:

  • work to find ways to increase funding to ailing school districts.

  • work to enhance adult education services.

  • work to make sure all students receive the support they need to be successful.

Investing in our youth is vital to Mississippi's future, and we want them to build their lives here. Strengthening adult education programs creates a more skilled workforce, benefiting our economy. With federal funding cuts, it's now crucial for Mississippi to fully support our schools, especially in rural areas, ensuring every student has access to a quality education and the resources they need to succeed. Addressing our critical teacher shortage, where some students are learning online due to a lack of in-classroom instructors, is paramount. While Mississippi has one of the highest high school to college ratios, our retention is low. To build a strong workforce, we must prioritize education and training at all levels – from alternative career paths in high schools to adult certification and upskilling initiatives. Equipping all our students with the necessary skills for our evolving economy is a bipartisan issue. This requires collaboration among the state, businesses, educational institutions, and community organizations.

Tourism - An Economic Powerhouse

I Will:

  • work to promote the natural beauty, dynamic history and cultural diversity of this state. We are all Mississippians.

  • find innovative ways to connect towns and regions to mutually benefit from recreational and cultural heritage tourism.

  • work with cities and community leaders to help  identify what can entice people to visit.

Accessibility of Elected Officials

I Will:

  • be present and accessible.

  • be accountable and transparent

  • keep you informed.

Responsive leadership requires connection. I will prioritize being reachable, maintaining a consistent presence in our communities, and diligently listening to the needs of my constituents.

Healthcare

I Will:

  • work to create a Program of All Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE) in Mississippi

  • work with all parties to find a common sense approach to Medicaid.

  • work to enhance rural healthcare access

  • focus on  developing drug policy and enhancing substance abuse services

  • work to enhance the quality of public and private mental health care services

The need for quality healthcare for every Mississippian demands immediate and bipartisan attention. The fact that 41 states, including many with conservative leadership, have found ways to expand Medicaid – through trigger laws and PACE programs – underscores that a solution exists. Mississippi must join them. The success of the PACE program in neighboring Tennessee, Alabama, Louisiana, and Arkansas proves its potential to provide crucial care for our senior population within their communities.

As a state that relies on federal funding for essential programs, we cannot afford to ignore the opportunity to invest in the health of our people. A healthy population fuels a strong workforce, which in turn drives economic growth, especially when coupled with effective workforce development initiatives. The closure of rural hospitals in states that failed to expand Medicaid between 2010 and 2021 serves as a stark warning for Mississippi. While national Medicare expansion holds the promise of significant job creation, we must work together to implement stringent oversight to maintain quality and address provider capacity concerns.

The economic benefits of a robust healthcare sector, particularly in our rural areas, are undeniable. It is time for bipartisan teamwork to prioritize the health and economic well-being of all Mississippians by exploring and implementing effective healthcare solutions.

Mississippi's tourism sector is a powerful economic engine, reaching record heights in 2023 with 43.7 million visitors contributing $11.5 billion in direct spending and a total economic impact of $17.5 billion. This vital industry directly supports over 130,000 jobs and indirectly bolsters countless others across our state. Beyond the impressive economic figures, Mississippi boasts a uniquely diverse history and culture, attracting visitors worldwide to explore our significant First American heritage, Civil War and antebellum sites, pivotal Civil Rights landmarks, celebrated literary traditions, and the birthplace of the blues and rock and roll. Coupled with our stunning recreational assets – from beaches and casinos to national and state parks and forests – Mississippi offers an unparalleled travel experience. By continuing to invest in and celebrate all that our state offers, we can ensure this crucial industry continues to thrive.
